Well isn’t that sod’s law for you. I was all ready to write a few words (ok, many words) for my rather neglected blog when I discover to that someone has rudely hacked into my site and placed lots of little bugs throughout it. When the big red screen appears with words like WARNING and ERROR all over it the panic sets in. And that made me realise just how much I care about the business. I’ve been speaking to friends (well, anyone who’ll listen really) about the fact I may have fallen out of lov...

The poor Christmas tree sits, redundant outside the back door and the baubles are safely stowed away ready for their next period of sustained attack from puppy and child (a valuable lesson was learnt at Just Bee HQ . . . cheap baubles go on the bottom branches, lovely cherished keepsakes towards the top. Sigh). Apart from the mountain of Quality Street glaring at me from the bureau, not to mention the turkey and cheese that is still cramming my freezer, you'd never have known Christmas was here ...

Gosh, my poor under-loved, neglected blog. To think my initial concern was bombarding you lovely lot with blog posts! However, there is much to report and an exciting few months ahead at Just Bee HQ. With the Little Bee safely ensconced in her pre-school after the glorious summer holidays, the hive is buzzing once more with batches of beautifully scented hand creams ready for the shelves. I know it's only October, and that the leaves are still falling and we can still try to convince ourselves ...

One of the first lessons my rather formidable riding instructor told me at the delicate age of four, was that when you come off your pony, you must always get straight back in the saddle. Otherwise, she said gravely, you may never get back on again. These words stuck with me like glue. Never riding again? The fear was intense so, despite various falls and dents to confidence, body and pride I generally got back in the saddle immediately.  But recently, I haven't been following this advice....

There's something about sitting at a proper desk, in a proper office that makes me feel all grown up. However stupidly, it makes me think that maybe . . . just maybe . . . I am running a proper business. For once I haven't been distracted by the fridge (that happens with some frequency), or the washing, or Radio 4. And because I'm working in a little office in London, there hasn't been my little bee or a shiny black and white terrier to distract me either. So I'm making progress, making plans a...

I cannot lie to you. It is gut-wrenchingly difficult sitting at my desk trying to focus on web-development, brand-management and PR when the sun is streaming through the window. It is taking every ounce of motivation not to zoom out of the door with the dog up onto the hill for sunshine walks and games. But, I am a grown up (supposedly) and this is my business . . . Because for the past few months, things haven't been sailing quite so smoothly. We've moved away from the farm and found ourselves...

Once again, it's been a ludicrously long time between posts. I often end up sitting at my desk, rubbing my forehead wondering where the time goes . . . and, as we race through February, this month is no different. As I watch my tiny bee become a little girl, I am all too aware of how precious our time is together - and how quickly it will pass. However, rather than dwelling on the morose (and unchangeable) elements of life . . . this is a wonderful opportunity to send a small update about Just ...

It's been a busy summer at Bee Farm. The wise man (my beloved father in law) has been buzzed off his feet with the amazing amount of honey that our wondrous bees have produced and (you'll have to believe me on this) it is some of the best yet. For the first time since I started Just Bee, I've been able to take some of his exceptional Heather Honey with me to various events and it's unctuous, chocolate like consistency and rich, deep flavour is attracting so much attention. It made me reflect on...

I was planning on writing a rather self-pitying post about the lack of sleep I've incurred this week at the hands of the sleep thief. I had a whole blog semi-written, highlighting how lost I felt, how bewildered and questioning whether or not I'm doing the right thing by running a business with a toddler and a husband working away. And then I head something on Radio 4 which put everything into perspective (good old Radio 4). As we all know, this week marked the centenary of the First World War ...

As I sat down this morning and entertained the idea of updating my blog, I wondered whether I had anything inspiring or remotely interesting to feedback (that's never stopped you before, I hear you chant). But then I looked back on the past month and there are a number of vaguely exciting things that you may (or may not) want to hear about . . . Mind you, I will admit that my primary reason for writing is to share this absolutely gorgeous picture of my little Bee and her pony. I know she's only ...

And to think, I started my blog with such good intentions. I had so much to say I wanted to hold back from weekly posts because I didn't want to bore you . . . and now it's been nearly three whole MONTHS since I wrote a word. Not a bean. But, here we are and the sunshine has finally come out (although, admittedly, today is a rather grey example of a Spring day) and the bees are again buzzing around us. I've actually decided to bite the bullet and go and experience beekeeping . . . whilst I have...

Phew. It’s been a while since I updated this poor, under-loved blog. Now, I would hate you to think that my absence has been because I’ve been resting, or taking it easy (as if). In fact, things at Just Bee HQ have become increasingly busy and my products are becoming more and more in demand (WHOOPEEE). My own little bee (or the sleep thief as she is often known) is now pottering along behind her baby-walker and her beautiful smile and aching innocence is a constant reminder of why I continue t...

As November draws to a close, it is quite terrifying just how busy this month has been. Little Just Bee seems to be growing in strength and it's been so busy I’ve thought I might not see Christmas this year. However, when I compare myself to this point last year, my little business is totally unrecognisable.   When I rocked up to a large Christmas fair in Exeter last year, I didn’t have my white and gold presentation boxes for my candles and I’d never sold to the general public before. Fa...

When I started booking myself in for Christmas fairs and events back in December 2012 I had no idea how quickly the time would fly by (and how much things would have changed). A year on and I have a gorgeous baby girl to help me sell my goodies (or rather distract me from focusing on them) not to mention a much increased product range and some vague idea of what I'm doing (I did say vague idea). It's going to be a busy October/November (and hopefully December) so I thought it would be useful to...

It's been a busy few weeks so I'm afraid there has been a bit of a gap in blog posts. As well as creating numerous recipes for the glut of broad beans, rhubarb and blackcurrants we've seen marched out of the vegetable garden, I have actually had a chance to get back to the heart of Just Bee - candles!  That's right . . . for the first time in MONTHS, I had an entire day free . . . and what did I choose to do, I hear you ask? A well-deserved massage, perhaps a leisurely lunch with friends? ...

I will apologise from the offset. Once again my blogging has veered away from its core theme (bees - obviously) and wandered into my own little world of various musings. Hopefully that isn't too much of a problem . . . I do promise to write about bees, honey and candles soon (honestly). It has been a very busy few weeks, working up to the delayed launch of Just Bee's new body butter and keeping my own little bee entertained. However with the help of mini-mummy, I have been ploughing through the...

So, we’re finally back on track. One gorgeous baby later and I feel that I'm seriously back in work mode. There's only so much procrastination that even I can do! Just in time really as Christmas is apparently only 144 days away (so someone told me via Facebook this morning). Frankly, I find it difficult even contemplating the festive season when the thermometer is hitting 31c most days but hey ho (or should that be ho ho?)   In order to be prepared for what I hope will be a VERY busy tim...

As soon as I saw the positive pregnancy test, I knew that getting back into the world of Just Bee would be a struggle following the appearance of my own little bee. It is simply too tempting to spend the days snuggling, playing or desperately trying to make the house look vaguely presentable. BUT . . . needs must and there are hoards of people calling out for luxury beeswax candles and skincare (fingers crossed). So, it is back to the desk. I know I said this last time. But, I procrasti...

Sometimes in my position as ‘chief creator’ of Just Bee products, I feel like a mixture of a mad scientist and Willy Wonka (except my treats aren’t edible). Squirreled away in my secret lab (although it’s not so secret really), I lovingly whisk, mix, pour and churn luscious products to help soothe and nourish the skin.   Since starting Just Bee, what started as a genuine interest in skincare has developed into a fiery passion and I am constantly thinking of new ingredients, scents and meth...

Back in August when we first came up with the idea to start Just Bee, I never quite imagined how far we would come in nine short months. What started out as a conversation held whilst slightly squiffy has turned into a brand I am tremendously proud of, and one which is attracting a lot of attention. Ok, so we have a long way to go before our competitors get really terrified, but famous brands now know we exist which is very exciting (even if that does just mean a follow on Twitter). Establishin...
